Turf Maintenance

Caring for Artificial Grass
Synthetic grass requires much less care and maintenance than natural grass, but there are still some steps that should be taken to keep your artificial lawn looking its best. If you have high-traffic areas, children, or pets, you may need to give your turf a little extra attention.

Weekly Artificial Lawn Maintenance
If you have trees or shrubs nearby, you may need to give it the occasional sweep or use a leaf blower. Rechargeable electric leaf blowers are a great option for many homeowners and save the hassle of dealing with gas equipment or extension cords.

Monthly Artificial Lawn Maintenance
You may want to give your turf the occasional touch-up with a stiff brush or flexible lawn rake or spray off any dust with a garden hose. Brushing against the grain will remove debris and help the grass blades stand up straight. If you have heavy traffic on your lawn, this can be done more frequently. This process will prevent matting and keep your turf looking as natural as possible.

If you have large areas of turf to cover. power brooms can be rented at any Synthetic Grass Store location, and we also offer
them for sale. If you purchased a house with synthetic grass already installed, a power brooming can revitalize its appearance. Many landscaping contractors offer this service in areas where synthetic grass is popular.

Removing Pet Waste
Ideally, pet owners should use a pet-specific infill such as EnvioFill to help minimize odors. Solid waste should be removed with a plastic bag or pooper scooper, and the area your pet frequently uses sprayed down with a garden hose. Optionally, an enzyme-based cleaner/deodorizer can be used for these areas.

Most pets have a favorite place to go, and these areas may need a little extra attention. If you need more information about pet-specific turf products, please contact us.

Cleaning spills and other accidents
It is not recommended to use harsh chemicals or cleaners on your turf. Things like spilled food and beverages can be cleaned up with a garden hose, soapy water, and scrub brush, or a mixture of vinegar and water. It is best to clean up spills right away if possible.

Stains and Window Burn
While synthetic turf is extremely durable, some things can cause permanent damage. Most common in hot climates is melting from excessive window reflections. We recommend using sunscreens on windows located near synthetic grass to prevent this. We also offer special turfs with high melting points - contact our sales staff for more information. Grills, fire pits, and fireworks should be kept off of synthetic turf, as all of these can cause permanent damage.

Many automotive products can stain synthetic turfs, such as oil, grease, other lubricants, and battery acid. We recommend keeping vehicles and gas-powered equipment away from your artificial lawn. If your grass does get damaged, contact our staff to learn about repair options.
