Vistancia Synthetic Lawn Installation

Vistancia Synthetic Lawn Installation

Arizona Backyard Transformed With Durasoft 80 Synthetic Turf

This installation is quite typical of a synthetic lawn in Arizona. Located in the Vistancia planned community, this uninspiring back yard was transformed into a low-maintenance outdoor oasis. What was once a natural lawn requiring constant watering, mowing and yearly overseeding is now an attractive outdoor space that the owner uses for yoga.

Project Details

Homeowner Dorothy M chose Durasoft 80 for its attractive appearance, realism, and twelve year warranty. This area is a little over 600 square feet of turf, and around 350 square feet of Tierra Norte pavers were installed at the same time. The installation work was done by Arizona Turf Masters, one of the oldest and most trusted installers in the state.

Installing synthetic turf allowed the owner to eliminate two irrigation zones and the water savings are already noticeable. There is no more mowing to be done, and she couldn't be happier with the results. If you live in a planned community in Arizona, HOAs can no longer legally restrict the installation of artificial turf.

Installation Process

The first step was to clear out the existing gravel and curbing to make space for the pavers. These were installed and cemented into place before undertaking the turf installation which was done the following day.

The old grass was left unwatered and removed with a gas-powered sod cutter. If you're doing this kind of work yourself, these can be rented at your local home improvement store. Other power tools needed like plate compactors and power brooms can be rented at any Synthetic Grass Store location.

This step shows the quarter minus aggregate layer being put in. This step is critical for leveling and drainage purposes. Most installations require 2-3 inches of aggregate.

The last step before laying the turf down is installing a quality weed barrier. Without this step it is possible for weeds to grow up through the turf.

The Final Product

The end result is a much more attractive, usable space that looks great all year. Maintenance is minimal, and with two sprinkler zones eliminated, the homowner is already seeing the savings.
