Natural Grass Banned in Scottsdale

The City Council of Scottsdale, AZ, has recently enacted a groundbreaking ordinance to eliminate real grass from the front yards of new single-family homes, effective from August 15, 2023. This decision, backed by unanimous approval, stems from the city's dedication to sustainable water management. Scottsdale Water's executive director, Brian Biesemeyer, highlighted the city's aim to be a leader in water conservation practices, setting an example for neighboring communities in the region.

This move follows a 2022 ordinance that prevented homeowners associations from mandating grass lawns, thereby contributing to water-saving efforts. Since 2022, the city has already achieved substantial water savings of around 657 million gallons, underscoring the impact of collaborative conservation efforts.
